September is almost here and with it comes the early hunting seasons. One that I really anticipate is the early teal season. Along with the early goose season, it is a prelude of hopefully many successful duck hunts to come in the next few months.

With just under three weeks remaining until Ohio State kicks off its 2023 season at Indiana, multiple key position battles remain undecided. Ohio State held its 10th practice of fall camp on Monday following the team’s first scrimmage on Saturday, but head coach Ryan Day remained noncommital when discussing how the competitions have evolved at quarterback, offensive tackle, and center while meeting with the media on Monday.

After 18 years at the helm of the Ohio State Department of Athletics, Gene Smith has announced he will retire next summer. In a press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Wednesday, Smith thanked his many colleagues through the years before pointing to the timing being appropriate for a new voice to lead the department.

COLUMBUS — Preparations for the 2023 season are officially underway for the Ohio State football team as preseason camp kicked off Thursday morning with the first of 25 practices leading up to the season-opener at Indiana on Sept. 2.

INDIANAPOLIS — As the Big Ten Conference prepares to scrap its division format beginning next year, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day believes it’s now time to at least consider moving the annual showdown between the Buckeyes and Michigan to earlier in the season.

GALION — Going forward, there will be no need to make plans for Saturday postseason football at the high school level in Ohio. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced that all games in weeks 11-15 will be played on Friday nights.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Matthew Ralph, of Buckeye Valley, and Mary Murphy, of Pleasant, excelled to win the Chad A. Wheeler “Best of the Best” titles at the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association final tournament for winners and runners-up of the season’s series at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club on Tuesday, July 25.
