OHSAA makes change to postseason

GALION — Going forward, there will be no need to make plans for Saturday postseason football at the high school level in Ohio. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced that all games in weeks 11-15 will be played on Friday nights.

This is a change from 2022, where just the first two weeks of the postseason were played on Friday nights. Following the first two weeks, there were playoff games on both Fridays and Saturdays. Now, the first two weeks of the playoffs will see the team with the better record in said matchup being the host team. The only exception that was given was if a school does not have lights, the game could be played on a Saturday.

When it comes to the state championship weekend, Divisions I, II, III, and VI will be played on Friday, besides one game that will be played on a Thursday.

Teams in Divisions IV, V, and VII will have their state championship games played on Saturday.

Last season, the area saw Galion fall in week 11 against Bellevue, 40-9. Colonel Crawford defeated Margaretta, then Carey in the first two weeks of the playoffs. In week 13, the Eagles fell to Columbus Grove in overtime, 14-7.
