BUCYRUS — The annual Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet took place April 20 at the Trillium Event Center.

Tigers take down Presidents as district semifinal looms


In a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference makeup game on Monday, the Galion softball team defeated Marion Harding 13-3 in five innings. The Tigers, who won a Division III sectional title on Friday, will take on Edison High School at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal contest at Shelby High School.

Galion High School hosts Kiwanis Invitational


The Galion varsity boys track team placed fifth and the girls team took seventh in the Kiwanis Invitational hosted by Galion High School on Friday. Lexington won the boys title, while Ottawa-Glandorf placed first on the girls side.

Ohio spring turkey season off to good start


Ohio wild turkey hunters checked 4,367 birds during the opening weekend of the spring hunting season, April 20-21, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

On April 10, head coach Ryan Day met with the media to discuss his team’s progression over the past month and look ahead to the position battles that will dominate the conversation when the Buckeyes gather again for fall camp.

Locklyn a ‘slam dunk’ hire for Day, Ohio State


Tony Alford’s abrupt departure from Ohio State to archrival Michigan last month left a void in Ryan Day’s coaching staff at an awkward time as the Buckeyes were just beginning to get into the flow of spring practice. Day moved quickly, though, and found a replacement in Carlos Locklyn that he believes will turn out to be a “home run” for the program.

Tennis team competes in Grandy Invitational


The Galion High School tennis team placed fifth in the annual Jim Grandy Tennis Invitational held Saturday at Bucyrus High School. The invite featured doubles play only.

Wild turkey season shaping up to be good


My favorite springtime activity is almost here. There is nothing more exhilarating to experience in the woods in the spring than to trick a gobbler to come to your calling. With the early spring weather this year, the turkeys should be in the heart of their breeding season which should make the season opener a good one.
