Victory Lanes in Galion hosted the PBA50 Sherry Bodkins Women’s Health Awareness Memorial Central Open March 29-31. The weekend featured a junior pro-am, adult pro-am, PBA senior qualifying and senior round robin match play. After churning out five state qualifiers a year ago, the Galion boys track team is hoping to build on its success with the return of an experienced and talented core.

After losing six players from last year’s 8-8 team, ninth-year Galion boys tennis head coach Tom Pawsey believes this season will be about rebuilding as the Tigers return just half its team. But while there are plenty of new faces on the roster this season, the Tigers return some firepower at the top led by star senior athlete Cooper Kent.

Under the direction of head coach Kenny Fagan, the Galion baseball team is hoping this season serves as a continuation of the improvement it showed last year in a winning campaign.

What the Galion girls track team lacks in overall numbers, it will make up for in top-notch athletes this season led by returning shot put state-placer Miranda Stone.

Few additions to the Ohio State roster have drummed up more excitement and anticipation than safety Caleb Downs, who transferred from Alabama to Columbus in January following legendary head coach Nick Saban’s retirement.

Galion’s Carson Frankhouse scored the winning run for the Tigers in a 3-2 victory over Wynford in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Heise Park. In game two, the Royals handed the Tigers (5-1, 2-0) their first loss of the season by a score of 7-5.

The Galion varsity boys and girls track teams both placed third in the the Bucyrus Elks Track Invitational held Saturday. On the boys side, the Tigers finished with 100.5 points, behind Oak Harbor (135) and Waynedale. On the girls side, the Tigers totaled 88 points, finishing behind Oak Harbor (126) and Waynedale (93).

Lake Erie anglers can expect the 2024 fishing season to again offer world-renowned opportunities, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

The Galion varsity softball team opened the season at home Tuesday against Northmor. Despite hanging tough against the visitors, the Tigers lost the game by a score of 10-7.
