BUCYRUS — Sources of revenue, number of new Crawford County residents born, top causes of death for Crawford County residents, amount of WIC benefits redeemed at local stores, top 5 food violations, and more are all information found in Crawford County Public Health’s 2022 annual report.

Crawford County Public Health releases its annual report to highlight the public health activities conducted during the previous calendar year to prevent the spread of disease, promote healthy behaviors, and protect the Crawford County environment.

“One of our biggest accomplishments in 2022 was achieving accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB),” said Kate Siefert, the Crawford County health commissioner. “We had been working on this goal for over five years. Being PHAB accredited is a national designation that demonstrates our commitment to quality improvement and providing essential public health services to our community.”

Funding for the health department continues to be diversified by securing more public and private grant opportunities, reviewing and updating its cost methodology for state-licensed programs (restaurants, public pools, private water systems, etc.), and minimizing its reliance on local government funds. “We are proud of our efforts to secure two-thirds of our revenue from grants and contracts to help alleviate the need for local funding,” Siefert said.

Crawford County Public Health is grateful to the 16 townships, five villages, and one city it serves for their local support and collaboration. The Board of Health members and the staff invite everyone to visit www.crawfordhealth.org to read the 2022 annual report and learn more about the variety of public health services and programs offered locally.
