Area track athletes moving on to regionals

Colonel Crawford girls’ track team had things working for another district title this past weekend. The Lady Eagles scored 138 to outpace second-place Seneca East’s 86.5.

Junior Hailey Slagle took home the 100-yard dash with a time of 12.93. Gabby Roston won the pole vault with an 11-00 leap. Colonel Crawford swept the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 meter relay races. Junior Ayla McKibben was second in the 200-meter dash at 27.43. Niya Shipman jumped to a 5-2 height in the long jump to grab second place.

Junior Cecelia Chase was runner-up in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:09.52. The winner was Lilly Schiefer, who also broke the meet record with a time of 5:09.04. Chase ran an 11:46.74 in the 3,200 meters and it was good for third place. Molli Teglovic’s toss of 36-06.25 in the shot put was good for third place.

Colonel Crawford’s boys’ track team finished in fourth place out of 15 teams. Trevor Vogt was the top hurdler in the 300 meters with a time of 41.21 and placed first in the long jump with a leap of 21-00.75. Shawn Auck paced himself to a runner-up place in the 3,200-meter run (10:15.77). The 4×800 meter relay team was runner-up, to 08:33.86.

Colonel Crawford boys and girls’ teams will both participate at Heath High School on May 24 and 26.

Galion will send multiple athletes to the regional tournament after a good outing in the Division II district meet in Ontario. Miranda Stone won the discus (134-01) and placed second in the shot put (37-02.25). The boys’ 4×100 meter relay team was runner-up with a time of 44.50 to move on.

Jacob Chambers finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.19) to move on to regionals. Caden Mendiola jumped 5-10 to place third in the high jump event. Linkon Tyrrell was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.06.

Galion athletes will take part in the Division II regionals at Lexington High School on March 25 and 27.
