Girls tennis: Galion edges Pleasant, 3-2

GALION — Galion defeated Pleasant 3-2 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference girls tennis action on Tuesday.

Emma Ross improved to 16-5 after a 7-5, 6-4 straight sets win at No. 3 singles.

Emma Maguire and Lydia McCabe claimed victory at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-2.

Zoee Reagan and Keiah Coulter provided the winning margin for the Lady Tigers with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Taylor Henry dropped her No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Kadence Fairchild lost at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Galion improved to 5-11 overall and 2-8 in MOAC play with the win.

River Valley 4, Galion 1

CALEDONIA — River Valley defeated Galion 4-1 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference girls tennis action on Thursday, Sept. 23 at Caledonia.

Emma Ross continued her winning ways this season, picking up the lone victory for the Lady Tigers. She won her No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Ross is now 15-5 this season following her latest win.

Lydia McCabe dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles.

Kadence Fairchild lost her No. 3 singles match, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles play, Emma Maguire and Taylor Henry lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 7-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Keiah Coulter and Kenzie Bowman lost a tough match, 7-6 (7-5 ticbreaker), 6-4.

Upcoming matches

The MOAC girls tennis tournament is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 2 at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington.

Galion wraps up regular season play on Tuesday, Oct. 5 with a home match against Madison. Match time is 4:15 p.m. at Heise Park.

The Division II sectional tournament is scheduled for Oct. 7 and 9 at Shelby High School. The rest of the field in the Shelby sectional features Bucyrus, Tiffin Calvert, Clear Fork, Edison, Lexington, Mansfield Senior, Ontario, Shelby, Upper Sandusky, and Willard.
