BELLVILLE – Five applicants have expressed interest in being on village council, mayor Teri Brenkus told members at the most recent meeting.
All are expected to attend the first meeting of council in 2020, on Jan. 7.
Current council members will be able to interview the applicants.
Brenkus told council of accomplishments in the village in the last three years. She listed a new master flag pole, the Opera House reopening, and passage of the police levy.
Also, new playground equipment has been installed at Palm Park and there has been a cemetery memorial addition, she said.
The mayor also mentioned the new wastewater treatment plant. A ground-breaking ceremony was held for that two weeks ago.
The line dancing classes at New Life Church will resume Jan. 5. The cost for the sessions is $1. Instructor Lee Walters is donating that money to the village for use in renovating the opera house.
Final approval was given to the hiring of the K. E. McCartney & Associates, Inc., for engineering services. The resolution appointing Sarah E. Mussman as village solicitor was also given final approval.
Council also approved an additional 33 hours of pay for the village administrator in 2019.
Council member Jason Guilliams reported that the finance committee had met, and a change was made in the budget for the Bellville Police Department. This was done to bring the budget to proper funding levels, he said.
The merit pay increase of 3 percent is in the budget, and the police department can use that funding.
A planning commission meeting was planned Dec. 23 at village hall.
The next council meeting is Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the village police department.
There is a cemetery board meeting Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at village hall. Council meets again Jan. 21 at 5:30 at the police department.
The January planning commission meeting is on the 27th, at 7 p.m. at village hall.
