One ticket punched, others await for Eagles

LANCASTER — In the Division III Region XI track and field meet at Lancaster Fairfield Union High School, the Crawford squad saw two-finals qualifiers and one athlete qualify for the state meet next Friday and Saturday in Columbus.

Sam Mutchler cleared a heigh of 5’2” in the high jump to earn a fourth place finish and a trip to Jesse Owens. In other individual competition, Kirsten Vehrs qualified for the day two finals in the 100-meter hurdles with the eighth fastest time of 16.82.

Also surviving to race on Friday was the 4×100-meter relay team of Pierce Krassow, Vehrs, Mutchler and Goyer. This foursome qualified fifth on day one with a time of 52.35. Goyer failed to advance in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 11th place with a time of 13.44.

Anna Reffey, Emily Kemper, Kari Teglovic and Courtney Britt finished 10th overall in the 4×800 with a time of 10:12.50.

All remaining field events will begin at 5 pm on Friday May 26 with the track events beginning at 6 pm.

Crawford boys track and field first day results

TIFFIN — With less than ideal weather, the Colonel Crawford Eagles boys track squad headed to Tiffin Columbian High School for the first day of the Division III Region X track and field meet.

After the first day of competition, the Eagles have placed one relay team but failed to punch any tickets to the finals on Friday or to the state meet next week.

The 4×800-meter relay team of Brad Bauer, Braxton James, Nick Studer and Chad Johnson started the day off with a sixth place finish in a time of 8:23.05. As of the end of day one, those three points are the only points awarded to the Eagles squad.

In the 4×100 relay, Colton Rowland, Harley Shaum, Owen Kocher and Dylan David finished the event with a time of 45.89 to finish 11th overall with the top eight places qualifying for finals. The 4×400 squad did not record a time in the qualifying for that race.

Jaret Tinkey finished 12th in the boys discus throw with a heave of 143’7”.

All remaining field events will begin at 5 pm on Friday May 26 with the track events beginning at 6 pm.
