LANCASTER — Representatives from the Northmor Golden Knights track and field teams were in action at Fairfield Union High School for day one of two of the Division III Region XI meet.
The boys squad for Northmor was very active on the day, qualifying for day two in three events while also earning an eighth place finish and a regional championship crown.
Demetrius ‘Meechie’ Johnson won the boys long jump with a leap of 21’0.5” and will be on his way to the state meet next Friday and Saturday. Meechie was joined by James Walker, Drew Zoll and Calvin Komer to finish sixth in the qualifying for the 4×400-meter relay finals on Friday. This squad finished the event in a time of 3:33.34.
Tony Martinez earned the Knights a point by finishing eighth overall in the pole vault with a height of 11’6”.
Walker will be running in the finals of the 300-meter hurdles after qualifying fifth with a time of 41.75. Kolton Smith would miss the cut in the 300, finishing ninth (42.90) but will be in action in the 110-hurdles after qualifying third in 15.94.
The 4×800 relay team of AJ White, Mostyn Evans, Alec Moore and Walker did not place for Northmor, finishing 12th overall in 8:56.45.
On the girls side, day one concluded with just one finals qualifier and no team points.
Brooke Bennett crossed the finish line in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.60, good for seventh with the top eight times moving on. Bennett was the anchor of the 4×400 relay team that finished 13th and missed qualifying. She was joined by Julianna Ditullio, Maddie Jordan and Brooke Huntsman.
Northmor’s 4×800 relay team for the girls, Samantha Peters, Jessica Duryea, Ditullio and Jordan finished in 11th to miss the podium with a time of 10:32.33.
Action continues in Lancaster on Friday May 26. Field events are set to start at 5 pm and track events at 6 pm.
