Crawford Park District upcoming events


SEED COLLECTION — Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Daughmer Savannah, 786 Marion Melmore Road, Bucyrus. The Crawford Park District needs your help with prairie grass seed collection. Grass seed will be collected from areas of Daughmer Bur Oak Savannah that have abundant prairie grasses. The seeds will be spread to those zones that are dominated by less desirable plant species. Meet at the parking lot at 786 Marion-Melmore Road, just north of Ohio 294. For information, call 419-683-9000.

WOOLY BEARS — Wednesday, Oct. 5, 5 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 Ohio 598. We notice them every autumn, crawling across sidewalks and up brick buildings. Where are they going? What do they become? Do they really forecast the winter? Join Crawford Park District Naturalist Josh Dyer to find out these facts and more about wooly bears. After a short story about their fascinating life, we’ll take a hike to find these fuzzy caterpillars. For all ages! For information, call v419-683-9000.

NIGHT SKY PROGRAM: INTERNATIONAL OBSERVE THE MOON NIGHT! — Saturday, Oct. 8, 7 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 Ohio 598. Join volunteers from the Crawford Park District in this celebration. A variety of telescopes will be available. This program is part of an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of the moon. OHIO CAVE SURVEY —Sunday, Oct. 9, 2 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 Ohio 598. What’s really beneath your feet? Join Crawford Park District guest speaker Erin Hazelton, of the Ohio Cave Survey, on a virtual adventure through some of Ohio’s 400 caves and rock shelters. Learn about the unusual creatures that call these places home and the research that has helped to protect some of these delicate ecosystems.
