In 2013, Crawford County Public Health began recognizing local food establishments for their exceptional efforts to prepare, serve and sell safe food to the public. On Wednesday, 17 food establishments were presented awards for those efforts.
“We are very proud to be awarding so many facilities this year,” said Kate Siefert, administrator at the Crawford County General Health District.
The Daily Scoop won the award for the second year in a row.
“We work really hard to ensure that our food is safe, our store is clean at all times and our equipment is in working order and at the proper temperatures to keep food safe for our customers,” said Joyce Rarick of the Daily Scoop, one of the recipients of the food safety award.
Siefert said four food establishments have won the award three years in a row.
“The Little Athens Greek Restaurant, Walmart, Buckeye Central Schools and KFC of Galion are the three food establishments that have earned the award since 2013,” Siefert said.
Renee Powell was on hand at the awards event to receive the award for Little Athens.
“We are very focused on not only serving delicious food to our customers but safe food that is handled properly and stored at the correct temperatures. We also work hard to keep the cleanest environment possible at the restaurant and are very honored to have received this award three years in a row,” said Powell.
One of the first-time recipients of the award is Avita Health System, Bucyrus Community Hospital.
“We have to work very hard since we are a hospital to ensure that food is kept safe. We are very honored to win this award,” said Wade Cramer, food service dietitian for Avita.
Other food establishments earning the award include: Bucyrus Elementary School, Bucyrus High School, Crestline Child Care, Crestline High School, Heartland Care Center, Katering Kountry Style, Maplecrest, Taco Bell, Wynford Elementary School, Wynford High School and Wagon Wheel Campground.
