Galion falls to River Valley

The Galion boys basketball team were looking to get even with Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference rival River Valley from a buzzer home loss earlier this season.

But the Tigers lost to the Vikings 83-61 in a road game Tuesday night.

“We got to play better,” said Galion boys basketball head coach Colby Bright. “I told them we cannot be inconsistent.”

Galion trailed River Valley throughout the first half of the game unable to surpass them. The Tigers headed into the locker room trailing the Vikings 28-24 at halftime.

“River Valley is a very good team,” Bright said. “They play a different style than what we’re normally used to seeing.”

Galion shot 22 of 47 and made 12 of 16 free throws, while River Valley shot 33 of 65 and made 10 of 11 free throws.

The Vikings scored 34 points in the third quarter, while the Tigers sported 19 points, which helped the former win the second half of the game 55-37.

Galion had 31 rebounds and 23 turnovers, while River Valley had 24 rebounds and eight turnovers.

Houston Blair led the Tigers with 24 points with eight rebounds, while Colton Moore shot 17 points with nine rebounds.

It was a great senior night for River Valley’s Danyon Hempy, who had a monster night scoring a game high off 44 points for the evening. Hayden Wallace added 13 points for the Vikings.

“We made it to easy for (Hempy),” Bright said. “They made it tough on (Blair) whenever the ball left his hands.”

Galion (11-9, 6-7 MOAC) will honor its seniors at its final home game against Marion Harding on Friday. The Tigers’ last game of the regular season is against undefeated Upper Sandusky from the Northern 10 Athletic Conference.

“They got talent,” Bright said. “If we can get back and make them play half-court basketball, I think we’ll have a chance.”
