For the third year, the Bucyrus City Schools sponsored the federally-funded USDA Lunch Program benefiting Crawford County.
Galion city officials worked with Community Action by supervising and organizing the program, which ends Friday.
In 2015, three sites were provided in Galion opposed to two in 2014.
These sites included:
* Galion Arms Apartments
* East Park at the cabin
* Libby Lane Apartments
“We are very excited to be collaborating with OHCAC and the Bucyrus City Schools food services department to provide the children of Galion nutritious meals over the long summer months,” City of Galion representative Natasha Hatfield said. “We relied on volunteers to distribute the lunches, and we have many Galion residents who have helped or are committed to helping. This program was truly a great community effort to make sure no child goes hungry this summer.”
Area local churches helped make sure the children receive their healthy meal after program funding ran out three weeks before the end of the program.
“They asked the area churches to help provide meals for the children,” First United Church of Christ member Adair Pittman said. “We received monetary money and food donations from our members to provide this weeks meals. We have averaged about 56 kids a day Monday through Friday and each child receives protein, fruit, vegetable and a dairy in their lunch.”
