Lady Eagles win Bucyrus Elks Invitational

BUCYRUS — Colonel Crawford girls track team started the season off with a bang by finishing in first place at the Bucyrus Elks Invitational.

The Lady Eagles finished with 143 points to grab the win. Lexington was next up with 125 points, as the two teams combined for majority of the points. Galion finished in 13th place with 16 points.

Senior Katie Ruffener won the 100 meter hurdles (15.28), 100 meter dash (12.84), 300 meter hurdles (47.68) and the long jump (16 feet and 7 and 1/4 inches).

Ruffener is signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Iowa State University.

Freshman Mira Holt won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.98 and finished fourth in the long jump. Senior Corin Feik was first place in the discus throw and her sister Julia Feik won the shot put.

The Lady Eagles finished second in the 4×800 meter relay (10:35.06), second in the 4×400 meter relay (4:24.24), third in the 4×200 meter relay (1:37.83) and 4×100 meter relay (53.86).

Sophomore Cecelia Chase came in third place in the 3200 meter run when the clock stopped at 12:40.25

Liv Krassow jumped her way to 4-feet, 10 inches during the high jump and led to a third place finish.

Colonel Crawford freshman Gabriella Roston finished second in the pole vault with a leap of 9-feet and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.24.

Standing out for Galion on the girls side was a couple of runners. Senior Ava Smith of Galion was third place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:40.29. Senior Zaynah Tate came in third place with a time of 2:36.10 in the 800 meter run.

Final women’s standings: Colonel Crawford (143), Lexington (125), Oak Harbor (52.50), Crestview (50.50), Ontario (49.50), Waynedale (47.50), Fredericktown (42), Marion Harding (37.50), Wynford (35), Centerburg (23.50), Bucyrus (19), St. Mary Central Catholic (18), Galion (16), New Riegel (4).

On the boys side of things

Crestview won the Bucyrus Elks Invitational on the boys side with a score of 136 and Marion Harding was runner-up with 111 points. Colonel Crawford finished in sixth place at 52 points; Galion was good for the seventh spot with 42 points.

Eagles’ senior Carter Valentine was second in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 7 and 1/4 inches. The boys 4×200 relay team finished third for the Eagles.

Junior Ethan Holt finished third in the 400 meter dash. Senior Lincoln Mollenkopf jumped his way to forth place in the long jump, as did Matt Clinard in the pole vault event.

Caleb Christman, a senior, placed fourth in the discus throw for Colonel Crawford as well.

The Seniors had a solid day for Galion on Saturday afternoon.

Andy Sparks showed up big for the Tigers by winning the 300 meter hurdles event. Kyle Foust jumper 5-feet, 10-inches and placed third in the high jump event.

Clayton Yost was fourth place in the shot put.

Galion’s 4×100 meter relay team was third place with a time of 45.27.

Final men’s standings: Crestview (136), Marion Harding (111), Lexington (83), Oak Harbor (74), Waynedale (54), Colonel Crawford (52), Galion (42), Bucyrus (34), Ontario (23), Mohawk (18), Fredericktown (17), New Riegel (9), Centerburg (8), Crestline (2).
