SUNBURY — The Galion High School boys golf team wrapped up its season with a 10th-place finish at the OHSAA Division II state tournament on Saturday at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury.

It was the fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament for the Tigers program. Galion finished seventh in 2020, sixth in both 2019 and 2017, and fifth in 2018.

The Tigers finished with a two-day total of 704 this time around. After opening with a round of 363 on Friday, Galion, as it has all season long, once again displayed its resiliency, shaving 22 strokes off of that performance, and finishing with a score of 341 on Saturday. That was the seventh-best team score in Saturday’s final round.

Nick McMullen of Galion shot 171 (86-85) to finish in a 6-way tie for 37th place. He was Galion’s top performer in the tournament.

Nate McMullen and Logan Keller finished as part of a 3-way tie for 48th place after shooting 175 each. McMullen shot 89 on Friday and closed with a score of 86 on Saturday. Keller opened the tournament with a score of 91 and closed it out with a score of 84 on Saturday.

Galion senior Max Longwell ended his high school career shooting a score of 183 to finish in a 4-way tie for 56th place. Longwell closed the tournament with a round of 86 on Saturday after shooting 97 in Friday’s opening round.

Nate Barre shot 192 (102-90) to finish in a tie for 65th.

Gahanna Columbus Academy emerged as the 2021 Division II state championship team, shooting 611 to edge Kettering Archbishop Alter by three strokes. Columbus Academy shot 304 on Friday and closed out the tournament with a score of 307 on Saturday.

Alter finished the tournament with a score of 614 after shooting 294 on Friday to lead Columbus Academy by 10 strokes. Alter shot 320 on Saturday.

Conner Ritter of Magnolia Sandy Valley is the Division II individual state champion for 2021. He shot 145 (69-76) to finish 1-over par for the tournament.

Davis Gochenouer of Alter finished as the state runnerup after shooting 149 (70-79). Stephen Ma of Columbus Academy and Brandon Conner of Cincinnati Madeira tied for third place after they each shot 150.
