Baseball: Campbell’s complete game leads Tigers past Spartans

GALION — Galion scored a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference win over Pleasant, on Wednesday evening at Heise Park. The Tigers (5-11, 3-7 MOAC) scored seven straight runs, to defeat the Spartans 7-1.

Pleasant (10-6, 5-6 MOAC) scored an opening inning run, but was unable to put much together afterwards.

Sophomore Landon Campbell picked up the win on the mound, going the complete game. Campbell allowed just the one run, six hits, and struck out four batters.

Peydon Gosnell raced home on a passed ball to score the only Pleasant run. Gosnell pitched four innings and allowed seven hits, four earned runs. The senior struck out two batters and walked four.

In the bottom of the second, freshman Max Albert got the Tigers on the board. Albert sent a ball to left field, which brought in a pair of his teammates.

That wasn’t all, the second inning was quite successful for the Tigers. Senior Hudson Miller doubled on a ball to center field, which scored two more runs for Galion.

The newest Terra State signee was 1-for-2 and scored a run against the Spartans.

Brody Symsick followed up Miller’s double with one of his own, to give Galion an early 5-1 lead.

Symsick, a Bluffton University signed, was one of seven different Tigers to pick up a hit.

Galion added security runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Carson Frankhouse reached home plate on an error, then Allen Carver picked up an RBI groundout.

Pleasant committed three errors on the evening, Galion had one.

The win for Galion avenged a 4-3 loss to Pleasant on Monday. Spartans claimed that victory in walk-off fashion.

Galion has Fredericktown on the schedule for Thursday, then will match up with Mount Gilead Friday.
