SHELBY — Pioneer students worked in their own communities for Community Service Day on April 22. It was the first chance the students have been able to celebrate Community Service Day in three years because of COVID.
Groups of students working with a Pioneer teacher visited various parks, YMCA buildings, and some churches. Each group was assigned to one particular place in their hometown. Groups of Shelby students worked at Siegfried Park, McBride Field, the Y, Pioneer School, Churches, and downtown Shelby. Gorman Nature Center, ECO Center, township garages, Kingwood Center, and some fire departments were on the list for students who live in other areas.
The students demonstrated pride in their work to help their community become a cleaner, better place to live. Various business places donated money for the purchase of t-shirts for the students to wear while working and to keep.
