GALION — Ontario showed why it’s a soccer powerhouse in the area, and taming Galion by a score of 10-0 on Monday.

Ontario (7-4-1, 4-0 Mid Ohio Athletic Conference) claimed sole possession of first place in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference with the win. The Warriors and Tigers (5-3-1, 3-1 MOAC) were tied atop the conference standings entering play on Monday.

“They’re a really good team. I think they’re state ranked. You know it’s going to be tough,” said Galion head coach Eric Palmer. “You know it’s going to be tough. We have had a couple guys out of the starting lineup.”

Ontario was able to put together five goals in each half. Gage Weaver, the top scorer in the MOAC, scored the first goal for Ontario and finished with a pair on the evening.

Gage Johnson and Josh Young both knocked in first half goals for the Warriors. Nate Judson also got one past the Tigers. Ontario scored once more with 6:56 left in the first half.

Palmer said missing a couple of players certainly had an effect on the Tigers.

“They have a deep bench that helps them,” explained Palmer. “We don’t have the subs all the time to match what Ontario is throwing at us”.

Overall, the Warriors recorded 10 shots in the first half.

Ontario started the second half off quickly as Caden Boebel scored at the 35:01 mark and then again with 7:21 remaining. Judson and Weaver both added to the scoring sheet with goals in the 25th minute of the second half.

Attempting to stop the damage on the day were Galion goalkeepers Brant Walker and Dakota Pigg, who would combine for 16 saves. Pigg had 10 by himself.

“I thought there were moments in the game where we were going toe to toe,” Palmer said, pointing out positives to take away from the match.

Ontario finished with 21 total shots while Galion had four shots.

“We knew that Clear Fork was going to be tough and that Ontario was for sure going to be tough. Teams in Marion are good too,” Palmer said. “We are happy with where we are right now and going to go for second place in the conference.”

The Tigers have two conference matches remaining against Highland and River Valley. Galion plays host to the Scots on Monday, Sept. 27 and then entertains the Vikings in the regular season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Galion battled to a 1-1 draw with Madison Comprehensive on Thursday, Sept. 16.
