Galion man pleads guilty in hostage and robbery case

CLEVELAND — A Galion man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his role in a bank robbery and hostage case in Ontario last year.

Taylor Crisman, 19, entered a guilty plea to an 11-count federal indictment on Thursday at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse. He could be given up to life in prison on Feb. 2 at his sentencing hearing.

Crisman’s co-defendant, Chris Hill, 24, pleaded guilty last week to the 12 counts he was charged with for his role in the incident. Prosecutors in the case and Hill’s attorneys have agreed to a recommended sentence of 25 years in prison for Hill, who was the getaway driver. His sentencing is Jan. 19.

There is no agreed-upon sentence in Crisman’s case.

Hill and Crisman, who is also known as Taylor Hoam, were arrested last December during a traffic stop in front of the Circle K in Galion by officials from the Cleveland branch of the FBI Cleveland Division of the FBI, Mansfield and Canton resident offices, along with officers from the Galion and Ontario Police Departments and Richland County Sheriff’s Office. Both men were reportedly living in Galion at the time of their arrest.

According to the FBI, the armed suspect, believed to be Crisman, entered a KeyBank employee’s home on Millsboro Road on Nov. 5, 2015, and held the worker and his family hostage through the night.

Hill and Crisman are accused of getting a KeyBank manager to rob the Ontario bank while holding the banker’s family hostage at their Millsboro Road home. The family reportedly was held at gunpoint overnight while the manager was forced to go to the bank by himself to steal nearly $195,000 in cash.

Crisman was allegedly inside the home when the man’s wife and two children, ages 2 and 4, came home on Nov. 5. He was wearing a white bandanna over his face and was armed with a .380-caliber automatic pistol.

Law enforcement has recovered $171,058 of the money that was stolen.
