A completely full house is expected as the Crawford County American Red Cross hosts the 5th Annual Power of the Purse, on Friday in Bucyrus. This year’s sold-out event will be held at the state of the art Trillium Event Center, 1630 East Southern Avenue.

The 2016 Power of the Purse is part of the 100-year Centennial Celebration for the Central Ohio Red Cross. The evening will focus on not only looking back, but ahead to the next 100 years. The event features Will Beard, from Q92.7/WQEL, as the emcee, with opening remarks from the station’s new General Manager, Kim Goyer, as well as the city leader, Mayor Jeff Reser.

“You do not need to travel far to hear from dynamic leaders about how they are changing the landscape in our Crawford County community today” Chris Copper, Director of Development, shared. “Women will walk away inspired and ready to impact our community profoundly with their actions, at the same time having fun together.” Copper shared that “live auction packages will feature designer purses including Versace, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and a grand prize of a trip to Rivera Maya, Mexico”.

New for 2016 will be the presentation of the first annual “Helen Picking Neff, Women in Leadership” award. The annual award will be presented to an inspirational female leader in our community that has made an impact, like Helen, on forging a new path and serving others. The award is designed to be in honor of Mrs. Neff, a long-tenured volunteer and supporter of the American Red Cross. Helen Picking Neff Women in Leadership Award is selected from nominations the community makes to the Power of the Purse Leadership committee.

The Central Ohio’s Power of the Purse provides significant funding for disaster relief, Services to the Armed Forces, Health & Safety CPR training and other critical community services that the American Red Cross provides in the community. If your organization would like to be involved please contact Chris Copper at 614-253-2740 (ext. 2288) or email her at [email protected].
