Heartland Church to host 5K

Heartland Church in Lexington will hold a 5K run/walk 10 a.m. April 30 at the church, 2505 Lexington Springmill Road S.

The event is designed to raise money for a student trip to the Life Conference in Kansas City as well as to support Richland County Pregnancy Services.

“Started a few years back. raising money for student ministry,” said Chris Durbin, who serves as the church’s pastor of student ministries and discipleship. “(We have a good location, since) the church sits on the bike trail. We’re hoping it continues to grow. It’s a fun, healthy thing for the community.”

This is the fourth year for the event.

“We’ve had as many as 100 runners and walkers at the event,” he said. “We’re hoping for a bunch more people this year.”

Durbin said he’s looking forward to meeting people at the event.

“Certainly it’s a way to connect with people in the community,” he said. “Let community know we’re here and we care.”

Registration is $20 by April 16, $25 after April 16.
