Centerburg gradually pulled away from Mount Gilead to claim victory in a high-scoring game by a margin of 63-37 on Friday. The two teams combined for 100 points and 978 total yards in the contest.

The game was very close for the majority of the first half. After the Trojans scored first, MG got a 20-yard touchdown from Jonah Barnett and a two-point run by Anthony Clark to lead 8-7. Centerburg scored again, but an 83-yard touchdown run by quarterback Deondre Cook gave the Indians a 15-14 lead after 12 minutes.

The Trojans would go up 27-15 in the second quarter, but the Indians responded with a seven-yard score by Cook and Barnett added a two-point run, bringing them within a 27-23 margin.

Unfortunately for MG, Centerburg would end the first half with a touchdown and then scored early in the third quarter to go up by 18. Cook would hit Tyler Bland for a 26-yard scoring pass and Clark got another two-point run to make the score 41-31, but Centerburg scored two more time to go ahead 56-31 with 11:33 to play. Both teams would trade scores down the stretch, with MG’s coming on a five yard run by Barnett, to provide the final score.

Mount Gilead did most of their damage on the ground. Cook ran for 193 yards, while Barnett tallied 118 and Clark finished with 100. Cook also completed three passes, all to Bland, for 39 yards.

Northmor Knights

Fredericktown scored three times in the first quarter and never looked back in defeating Northmor 41-3 on Friday night.

Brenden Reed scored three times on rushing touchdowns to stake the Freddies to a 21-0 lead after the opening period and then added a fourth score in the second period.

Northmor’s Jake Farley drilled a 24-yard field goal to make the score 28-3 at the half, but the Knights would not be able to get any closer. Fredericktown added touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to finish off their win.
