Chargers split games at state tourney

The Crawford County Chargers split a pair of state tournament games Aug. 22. They traveled to Dayton to participate in the South Section held at Art Van Atta Park. They opened play by taking on the Darke County Warriors and won, 20-0.

Later in the day, the Chargers took on the Montgomery County Cougars. It was a back and forth game with each team taking the lead at various times during the game. Montgomery was able to gain the lead and hang on to it for a 19-17 win. As a result of the loss, the Chargers finished as runner-up in the South Section.

The Chargers still have some regular season games and the Clearwater Athletic League Tournament to complete.

Members of the Chargers softball team are Peggy Benedict, Jeremia Gale, Monroe Harris, Chris Hysell, Jessica Ireland, Justin Locke, Jamie Noe, Matt Spencer, Casyndra Straughter, Jackie Stuckmen, Ashley Tyree, Brandi Tyree, Kyle Tyree, Tammy Tyree and Chad TenEyck.

The coaching staff consists of head coach Keith Bradley, and assistant coaches Ron Shirkey and Jim Plasencia.
