GALION — The Galion girls cross country squad finished eighth in the team standings at the 2021 Galion Cross Country Festival on Saturday at Amann Reservoir. The Lady Tigers, who were missing some runners from their regular lineup, finished with 188 points.

Lexington captured the team championship with 90 points. Eastwood placed second (118 points) and Shelby finished third (129 points).

Shelby’s Kayla Gonzalez was the individual champion, finishing the course in 19:22.8.

“The girls’ team finish was not as good as we were expecting, but there were a few factors that played key roles in that,” Galion head coach Cindy Conner said. “The heat and we were missing a few athletes who could not run this weekend. The girls continue to work hard and know what their season goals are. It would be cool to place well at our own invitational, but that was not on their list of things to accomplish this year. The best is yet to come.”

Sophomore Raygann Campbell led the Lady Tigers with a 19th place finish. Campbell recorded a time of 20:56.8.

Senior Zaynah Tate finished in 26th place with a time of 21:32.5.

Sophomore Nora Harding posted a time of 21:58.9, which was good for 39th place. Senior Ava Smith turned in a time of 23:05.3 and finished in 52nd place.

Senior Natalee Perkins finished the course with a time of 24:41.8, pacing herself for a 69th-place finish.

Senior Jasmine Clingman placed 77th with a personal best time of 25:27.5.

Following are the Galion results from the Division 2/3 open race: Dezi Lester, 29th, 24:12.4 (personal best time); Grace Sparks, 108th, 28:57; Hayla Cowdrey, 117th, 29:26.5; Ella Lehman, 131st, 30:56.5; Zoee Brissell, 135th, 31:31.8; Ryllie Preston, 147th, 33:51.8 (personal best time);
