Boys basketball: Galion falls to Jonathan Alder

The Galion boys basketball team suffered its first lost in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference this season with a 37-34 defeat from Jonathan Alder Thursday evening.

The Tigers (1-1, 1-0 MOAC) failed to surpass the Pioneers that maintained an average lead of more than three points per quarter.

Galion was a point behind Jonathan Alder at 16-15 at halftime but the deficit grew in the second half when the Pioneers scored 13 points in the third quarter – seven points more than the Tigers.

Jonathan Alder made nine shots, five 3-pointers and four free throws, while the Galion made eight shots, five 3-pointers and three free throws.

The Tigers finally outscored the Pioneers with 13 points in the final quarter but couldn’t make up the three-point deficit in time.

Houston Blair paced Galion with 13 points including three 3-pointers, while Kalvin Rinehart added nine points including two free throws.

For the Pioneers, Andrew Koenig led all scorers with 17 points including three 3-pointers and two free throws. Jon Peters added six points with a free throw.

Galion will host to play Buckeye Valley (2-1, 1-0 MOAC) for its second conference game on Saturday.

Buckeye Central

The Buckeye Central boys basketball team won its first win in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference for the season against Seneca East with a 60-51 rout.

The Bucks outscored the Tigers in the second quarter with 26 points giving them 35-26 lead at halftime.

Buckeye Central shot 18 of 44 and made 23 of 39 free throws along with 25 rebounds. Seneca East shot 19 of 52 and made 12 of 16 free throws along with 43 rebounds.

Grant Loy led all scorers that evening with 21 points including a 3-pointer and four free throws. Scott Heydinger and Jacob Shade added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

For the Tigers, Johnny Diehm had 12 points and Brady Ferres added 10.

The Bucks (2-0, 1-0 N10) will host to play New Riegel on Saturday.

Bucyrus Redmen

The Bucyrus boys basketball team lost its second game of the season with 57-42 defeat from Riverdale.

The Falcons had a 36-20 lead over the Redmen by halftime. Bucyrus scored 22 points in the second half, a point more than Riverdale.

Zane Richardson scored 11 points that evening, while Keegan Sims added nine points and Clinton Carr had eight points and nine rebounds.

The Redmen (0-2, 0-0 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) will travel to play Crestview on Saturday.

Colonel Crawford Eagles v. Crestline Bulldogs

The Colonel Crawford boys basketball team started the season with a 54-27 victory over host Crestline.

The Eagles shot 21 of 54, made six of 12 free throws and had 38 rebounds. Owen Adams scored 19 points including two 3-pointers. Brody Martin added 12 points, while Derek Burkhart finished with 10.

The Bulldogs shot 11 of 32 and made four of 16 free throws. The team had 28 rebounds. Tyler Sipes and Zach Gregory both led Crestline scorers with six points. Gregory had a 3-pointer.

The Eagles will play Mohawk on Saturday, while the Bulldogs play Galion on Dec. 10.
