Rocky Alt To Be At Men’s Prayer Breakfast

Football standout and coach Rocky Alt to be featured speaker at Men’s Prayer Breakfast 7 AM Wednesday, December 9 at Bucyrus Community Hospital Cafeteria. Paul Alt better known as “Rocky” Alt was Crestline football and baseball star graduating in 1967. In high school he was All League (JAC) Football as a junior and senior, and All State as a senior. Rocky attended Wittenberg University where honors continued to build. He was named All Conference in football in 1969 and 1970. He was co-captain in 1970 and named the “Best Back in the Conference”.

Rocky was inducted into the Wittenberg Hall of Fame in 1993 for his accomplishments in both football and baseball. Alt was a three-time most valuable player, twice in baseball and once in football. A quarterback, he received the Mike Gregory Award as the Ohio Athletic Conference’s most valuable back in 1970. During his career, Alt threw for 4,195 yards and 46 touchdown. During his last two seasons at the helm Wittenberg was 19-0 with tow OAC titles. As a pitcher in baseball, Alt was 9-1 his senior year and led the OAC in wins, earned run average (1.00) and strikeouts (78). He was in the top 10 notationally in wins and ERA. He still holds three school career records: innings pitched (248.0), strikeouts (241) and ERA (1.64).

Rocky was also inducted into the Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Rocky has has a successful career in coaching football. In 30 years, his teams have had winning records, conference titles and record setting seasons. He has coached at Bowling Green State University, Marshall University. Wittenberg University, University of Hawaii, Northern Illinois and Otterbein College in Ohio.

Some of Rocky’s most rewarding work has been with former Crestline alum, fellow player and coach Mike Gottfried with Team Focus, the organization the Gottfried founded to help young men without father figures develop life skills. Alt and Gottfried lost their fathers at young ages.
