GALION — The Galion Lady Tigers tennis squad played host to Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference rival, the Harding Prexies on Thursday afternoon at Heise Park. This match would be the final tune-up for the two teams before competing in this weekend’s MOAC tournament.
It would be Galion that would come away with the 3-2 victory to remain undefeated on the season at 11-0 and remain untouched in conference play at 8-0.
Katherine Talbott would cruise to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles to earn the hosting Tigers their first point. At third singles, Jalyn Oswald won her match; 6-1, 6-1 to put Galion up 2-0. Kayley Gimbel would fall at first singles by a final of 3-6, 5-7 to reigning MOAC first-singles champion, Maggie Pitts.
The second doubles team of Elli Chandler and Katie Baughn would also be defeated by their opponents from Harding; 1-6, 2-6. With the match all tied at two, Galion’s first doubles tandem of Kiersten Gifford and Danielle Schneider used three sets to secure the win for the Lady Tigers; 6-1, 1-6 and 7-6 (tiebreak, 7-4).
Galion will now head to Harding High School on Saturday morning to compete for MOAC honors. Regular season play picks back up on Monday with a trip to Bucyrus. On Tuesday, September 19, the Lady Tigers will host the Clear Fork Lady Colts in MOAC competition.
