PAINESVILLE — Galion ran into a buzzsaw named Kurtis Reid in its opening game of the 2015 Ohio 12U Little League State Tournament.
Reid went 4-for-4 with four home runs and 11 RBI to lead Hamilton West Side to a 16-0 victory over Galion on Sunday at the Kiwanis Recreation Park in Painesville. The game was halted after four innings.
With the setback, Galion will play Maumee on Monday in a loser’s bracket game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Maumee lost to Cuyahoga Falls North 5-3 on Saturday.
West Side led Galion 3-0 entering the fourth inning and exploded for 13 runs in the frame to end the game. Reid hit a two-run home run in the first inning and added a solo home run in the third for West Side. He belted two grand slams in the fourth inning.
Reid and starter Ryan Kirkendall combined on a no-hitter for West Side. Kirkendall picked up the win.
Galion used five pitchers in the game. Carter Keinath was tagged with the loss.
During a 24-4 dismantling of Wheelersburg in the tournament’s first game on Saturday, Reid went 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI. His tournament stat line now reads 9-for-9, six home runs and 17 RBI.
In other action from Sunday, Mount Vernon shut out Washington Court House, 12-0; North Canton defeated Canfield, 10-4; and Cuyahoga Falls North thumped Geneva, 14-1.
