Lady Knights volleyball edges Westerville South


GALION — On Saturday morning, the Northmor Lady Golden Knights volleyball team played host to the Lady Wildcats from Westerville South High School in a non-league contest.

In what proved to be a true back and forth match, it was the Northmor squad prevailing; 3-2. With the victory, the Lady Knights remain undefeated at 8-0 on the year and stand at 4-0 in the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference.

The Northmor defense played tough on Saturday, accumulating big numbers both on the dig and with blocks at the net.

Leading the way in the dig category for the Knights was Cristianna Boggs who finished the marathon match with 20 total digs. Also helping to keep play rolling was Anna Donner with nine digs, Jordyn Zoll with six and Hanna Bentley and Aly Blunk, recording five digs apiece.

Donner was also busy at the net, recording four solo blocks and assisting on nine others. Hope Miracle aided in thwarting the Lady ‘Cats net attack with three solo and five assisted blocks. Leslie Brubaker also contributed three solo blocks and helped out on six others.

Offensively, Donner was all over the court as well. Donner finished at 51/54 hitting en route to 14 kills on the day to go along with 14/14 serving for two aces. Brubaker notched 10 kills on 31/35 on the attack and Miracle netted seven kills on 20/23 hitting. Zoll and Caitlin Thebeault also contributed five kills each. Zoll and Thebeault would also maintain duties as the primary ball handlers for head coach Kara Wright’s Knights. Zoll recorded 21 assists on 81/82 setting and Thebeault finished at 61/62 with 16 assists.

Other stats for Northmor were: Kelsie Fike- 21/22 serving, one ace; Thebeault- ace and Bentley- ace.

The Lady Knights will travel to Colonel Crawford High School on Monday, September 11 to meet up with the hosting Lady Eagles in a non-conference match. Mount Gilead will play host to the Northmor squad on Tuesday in KMAC play.
