FINDLAY — Like most high school golf teams, Colonel Crawford Eagles had a busy first week.
The season kicked-off last Monday when the Eagles hosted Plymouth at Valley View Golf Course. The Big Red defeated Crawford 197-226.
On Aug. 8, the Crawford squad traveled to Cranberry Hills for the annual Buckeye Central Invitational. Of the nine teams in action on the day, the Eagles finished eighth.
A trip to Findlay and Sycamore Springs Golf Course was next up for the Eagles as they met up there with the Riverdale Falcons from Mount Blanchard.
In a much closer match in the battle of the birds, Colonel Crawford lost by three strokes, 225-222.
Eli Shultz contributed the top score for the Eagles vs. Riverdale, shooting a 48. Ten strokes behind Shultz was newcomer Gavin Feichtner with a 58. Andrew Daubenspeck and Marcus Fagan shot a 59 and a 60, respectively, to round out the kept scores for Crawford. Drop scores for the match were: Andy Brause (61) and AJ Johnson (66).
Leading the way for the Falcons was Andrew Kuenzli, firing a 39 on the day. Curtis Tracy and Mason Pickett both shot 60s and Justin Hartman finished up the Riverdale scoring with a 63. A 66 by Rease Haley and a 76 shot by Christian Vasquez were dropped.
The 2017 season continued with another invitational Monday at the Bucyrus Elks Invitational with Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Mohawk, Seneca East and Wynford.
