Golden Knights dominate on the diamond in Mount Gilead

Indians fall apart in seventh vs. Northmor

MOUNT GILEAD — The Mount Gilead Indians have just one win on the season and were poised to gain their second on Wednesday at home against the Northmor Golden Knights in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division baseball action.

Northmor did not score a run until the top half of the third inning when they plated five. At this point, Mount Gilead had a 5-0 lead wiped out. The Indians would respond, tacking on two more runs in the home half of that inning to go back on top, 7-5. The Knights’ scoring seized again and Mount Gilead put up another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a comfortable 8-5 lead. Then, the top of the seventh happened. Northmor would go on to put up an astonishing 13 runs in the seventh and hold Mount Gilead scoreless in the final frame to earn an 18-5 win.

The Golden Knights scored their 18 runs on 16 hits, had two errors in the field and stranded seven on the base path. Mount Gilead had eight runs on 10 hits, two errors and also stranded seven.

Hunter Mariotti earned the victory on the mound for the Knights, tossing five innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs while walking three and striking out three. Hayes Bentley was the starting pitcher for Northmor and went two innings, allowing five hits, five runs (four earned) while walking one and fanning one.

Nate Hall was a big contributor in Northmor’s offensive explosion. Hall finished the day with a single, a triple, three runs scored, six RBI and two-run homerun that put the Knights down just 8-7 in the seventh. Austin Wheeler also came up big at the plate with three singles and a double, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Conor Becker and Tyler Kegley had identical stat lines, knocking two singles, scoring two runs and an RBI each. Wyatt Reeder, Mostyn Evans, Alijah Keen and Conan Becker all had singles on the day and Kyle Kegley reached base on a double.

Lady Knights earn lopsided win

MOUNT GILEAD — Northmor’s softball team also experienced an eruption on offense on Wednesday against Mount Gilead and needed just five innings to top the Lady Indians, 13-2.

The Lady Knights plated 13 runs on 13 hits, committed three errors and stranded 10 runners. Mount Gilead scored two on just five scattered hits, committed four errors and left six on base.

Shelbey Lilly was the winning pitcher for Northmor, hurling five innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), walking three and striking out four. Lilly’s bat was silent but she did score a run on the afternoon.

Lydia Farley had two singles and a triple on the day to along with two runs scored and six runs batted in. Aly Blunk also came threw for Northmor with three hits, two singles and a double while scoring twice and driving in a run. Jessica McIe had a single and a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Cristianna Boggs racked up two more hits, both singles, while scoring three times, notching an RBI and stealing a base.

Lindsey Wiseman, Andrea Weis and Alee Ivy also belted singles for the Lady Golden Knights against Mount Gilead.

Both Northmor squads will host the Lucas Cubs in non-league action on Thursday April 27. On Friday, the Knights will be at home once again, this time to faceoff against league rivals, the Cardington Pirates.
