Galion’s girls tennis team beats River Valley

GALION — The winning streak continues for the Galion High School tennis team. With its 5-0 victory over the River Valley Vikings on Tuesday, the Tigers move to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division.

The first doubles team of Marissa Breinich and Kiersten Gifford won easily 6-0, 6-4. At second doubles, Katie Baughn and Orchid Parsons recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over their Vikings competition.

The trio of singles players once again breezed to victories. Jalyn Oswald won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles to improve to 11-3 on the season. At second singles, Katherine Talbott improved to 10-2 this year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. First singles star Kayley Gimbel remains undefeated (11-0) after winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Galion has just one more match before competing for league honors at the MOAC tournament Sept. 17.

The Jonathon Alder is the only MOAC foe with a win over the Tigers. That rematch is Thursday Sept. 15 at Heise Park. Jonathan Alder is tied with Galion atop the conference.
