For the second year in a row, Galion City School District sixth grader Regin Kuehlman will be one of fifty-five students competing in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at Ohio University March 19.

Qualifying for this event has been a long process. Kuehlman competed in the district-wide spelling bee and qualified to take the test.

“The online test Regin completed successfully was administered in late January,” Gifted Coordinator Leanna Giesige said. “The test consisted of fifty questions, and students had to score at least a 25 to qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee.”

Regin represented Galion in the Crawford County Spelling Bee in January. Her Top 12 finish qualified her for the Tri-County Spelling at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center Feb. 11.

“We are very proud of Regin for her spelling accomplishments this year,” Superintendent Jim Grubbs said. “We know Regin will do very well in Athens, and wish her nothing but success as she competes and represents our school district.”

This regional contest is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. One student will qualify for the national competition in Washington, D.C.
