BUCYRUS — Bucyrus city schools will induct the 2017 class of the Bucyrus Hall of Fame class of 2017 Saturday, Jan. 13. This year’s class includes three individuals and one team.

The festivities will begin with a reception in the Bucyrus Secondary School Little Theatre prior to the start of the home varsity boys basketball game against Wynford Jan. 13. During the reception, the inductees will be introduced and receive a commemorative plaque. Following the reception, the inductees will be introduced between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games.

“The 2017 Hall of Fame is an exceptional group of individuals,” said Hall of Fame committee chairperson Jay Dennison. “This class is a testament to the ideal of service above self, and each individual embodies the qualities the committee seeks to showcase.”

The 2017 class of the Bucyrus Hall of Fame includes: John Kennedy, Mike Pensinger, Jack Binnix, Sr. and the 1923/1924 Class A state finals qualifying boys basketball team, which includes: Frank Abbey, Mike Cooney, Alex Kish, Howard “Ike” Nussbaum, George “Butch” Pfleiderer, Carl Roberts, Franklin “Toby” Roberts, Alton Smith, Harold “Pup” Smith and Floyd Yeager (Coach). If anyone knows any living relatives of the aforementioned members of the 1923/1924 boys basketball team, they are encouraged to contact Jay Dennison at [email protected] or Rick Rawson at [email protected].

“These individuals have made countless contributions to our district, the Bucyrus community and our country that can never be repaid,” said Bucyrus Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “This is going to be an amazing night for our district, and I want to personally thank and congratulate each of these individuals for their contributions to the Bucyrus City School District.”

The Hall of Fame seeks to recognize individuals who were outstanding high school athletes, former coaches, school officials, or community members that have distinguished themselves and made positive contributions to the Bucyrus City School District.

Tickets for the induction ceremony are available for $5 from the Bucyrus High School or Bucyus Middle School offices. To learn more about the Bucyrus Hall of Fame, please contact Jay Dennison at 419-562-0003 or email [email protected].
