The Galion Lady Tigers fast-pitch softball team traveled to play the River Valley Lady Vikings and ended with a loss by a score of 6-5.

Galion came out in the first inning and put up a run with Gabby Kaple scoring on a double by Dusty Thomas.

River Valley would match in the bottom of the first by scoring a run as well and then they tacked on three more runs in the next three innings.

Galion would not score their second run until the fourth inning when Gabby Kaple scored again on a double by Aleena Truman. Kaple ended the game with a single, a walk, and three stolen bases.

River Valley would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 6-2.

One would think that the game would be over with a four-run lead, but the Lady Tigers would not quit.

“The key for us in this game is that we didn’t give up,” Galion Head Coach Doug Hunt said.

In the top of the seventh inning, Galion started their rally with singles from Aleena Truman and Dani Schieber. Emily Sedmak walked at her at bat to make the bases loaded. Taylor Lear singled to bring in Truman as well as Abbey Barre singled to bring in both Schieber and Sedmak to make the score 6-5.

A strikeout later and the game was over with River Valley taking the win.

“You can’t plan for every contingency in a game. You try to plan out every scenario in practice, but you just can’t,” Hunt said.

Emily Sedmak pitched the entire game for Galion, giving up the 6 runs on 7 hits, with 10 strikeouts, and 4 walks.

Galion will host to play Colonel Crawford in non-league play today.
