The No. 2 seed Galion boys basketball team defeated No. 7 seed Margaretta 52-35 in its first Division III sectional finals at Shelby High School.
The Tigers got off to a strong start with a 24-12 lead over the Polar Bears at halftime. Galion’s defense held Margaretta to just three points in the first quarter.
Galion made 15 shots and 11 of 14 free throws, while Margaretta made 14 shots and 5 of 11 free throws.
The Tigers defeated the Polar Bears 28-23 in the second half.
Colton Moore led the Tigers with 17 points, while Houston Blair added 16 points.
Angelo Frias led the Polar Bears with 13 points.
Galion’s record improved 12-11.
The Tigers will play either Ashland Crestview or Collins Western Reserve at Norwalk High School on Thursday.
