Swimming: Galion defeats Madison

The Galion swimming team defeated the Mansfield Madison Rams at the Galion YMCA on Thursday.

“I was proud of the team’s performances and especially proud of the girl’s team fighting their way to a 2 point victory,” said Galion swimming head coach Ted Temple. “The first-year swimmers really came through swimming hard to help preserve the victory.”

The Lady Tigers (4-5) sported a 48-45 victory, winning 10 of the 11 events.

Bri Wallis was a double winner in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles with season best times of 1:00.81 and 2:16.71, respectively. Allison DeNero was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Sari Conner won the 500 free and 100 breaststroke, with respective season best times of 6:24.47 and 1:25.35. Ashleigh Wright won the 100 backstroke with a season best of 1:20.05. Elise Barnhart won the 50 free.

Galion’s boys (7-2) won 67-27, also winning 10 of the 11 events.

Sam Rigdon won the 200 IM and 100 free events. Eli Skaggs was a double winner in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. Clay Karnes won the 500 free event with a season best of 5:31.28. Landon Rose won the 200 free. Luke Eisenaugle won the 100 backstroke.

Temple said the team is ready for Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Championship swim meet at the Marion YMCA on Saturday.

Bucyrus Quad Meet

Upper Sandusky won a quad meet at Bucyrus on Wednesday.

The Rams won with 309 points combined between the boys and girls, while the Redmen placed second with 31 points. Crestline placed third with 15 points, while Wynford tallied nine.

Upper Sanduksy’s girls tallied 153 points, while Bucyrus’ girls sported 25 points. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Royals finished with 11 and six points, respectively, that evening.

In addition, the Rams won with 156 points, while the Redmen scored six. Crestline had four points and Wynford sported three.

Samantha Murtiff notched the top spot for Bucyrus after winning the girls 100-yard freestyle. Michaela Jeffrey led Crestline by placing second in the girls’ 200 free (2:36.56).

Alexis Richardson and Josh Rose both sported the top spot for Wynford. Richardson placed third in the girls 500 free against three other swimmers, while Rose also placed third in the 100 backstroke.

Bucyrus and Wynford will be back in action for the Northern 10 Athletic Conference swim meet on Saturday. The Crestline girls swimming team will participate at an Ontario Invitational on the same day.
