GALION — The 2022 Pickle Run Festival is set to run on July 1-2 on Heise Park Lane. The festival will feature multiple events the community can enjoy. On July 2, there will be fireworks, food and plenty of fun. Also, there will be a car show, live music, a parade, and much more.

Galion’s Pickle Run started in 1978 as a fundraiser for the Galion Booster Club. It was held in Heise Park on Labor Day weekend each year. The festival is named after a creek that once ran through town. Local legend says that a grocer pitched bad pickles in the creek back in the 1890s, the name stuck.

Sporting events include a basketball tournament, an alumni softball game, and a sand volleyball tournament. The details are shared below including sign-up information.

All proceeds from the 3v3 basketball tournament will benefit the Galion boys and girls basketball programs. There will be three divisions for boys and girls for this tournament. Grouped by grades, there will be 4-6, 6-8, and 9-12.

The games will be held at 10 a.m at the Galion Middle and High Schools. First-place winners will win a prize. The cost is just $40 per team. Each team can have four players, so one substitute.

Anyone looking to register on the girls’ side can contact James Nelson at 419-617-9310. Boys who want to register can contact Ryan Stover at 740-417-1309.
