Area athletes heading to track regionals

NORTH ROBINSON — Area schools will be competing in regionals this week after a good showing in districts.

Colonel Crawford girls track team dominantly captured a district title on Friday. The Lady Eagles scored 172 points to run away with the first-place win.

Rylee Ritzhaupt, Gabby Roston, Mira Holt, and Lynae McKibben helped their team by winning the 4×400 relay race.

The Lady Eagles captured a 4×800 relay win as well, Gabby Roston flew 11-4 in the pole vault to win there too.

Katie Ruffener continued to dominate through districts. The future Iowa State Cyclone runner won the 100-meter dash (12.90), 100 hurdles (14.29), and 300 hurdles (44.67). Additionally, Ruffener was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 17-9.

Other first-place winners for Colonel Crawford included Corin Feik in discus and Liz Krassow in the high jump. Julia Feik was the runner-up in the shot put event.

Cecelia Chase was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.86, and Olivia Hardy was fourth.

The Lady Eagles will travel up to Port Clinton for regionals on Wednesday and Friday.

On the Colonel Crawford boys’ side of things, Carter Valentine won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet and 1 and a half inches. Also, Valentine kept his jumping ways to pick up first place in the high jump.

Trevor Vogt won the 300 hurdles race and was runner-up in the 110 hurdles.

The Eagles 4×100 relay team was in the first place (44.93). Also, Colonel Crawford was able to claim runner-up in the 4×200 meter relay (1:34.95).

Colonel Crawford boys will travel to Chillicothe on Wednesday and Friday for regionals.

Galion Tigers

Galion’s Zaynah Tate finished second in the 800-meter run, during their district meet. Distance runner Raygann Campbell was able to finish third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:13.80.

Andy Sparks won the 300-meter hurdles, thanks to a time of 40.60. The Tigers 4×100 relay team finished in third place, as did the 4×200 team.

Kyle Foust is moving on to regionals after he jumped 6-2, to finish in third place in the high jump.

Galion will compete at the Division III Regionals at Lexington, which will take place on Thursday and Saturday.
