GALION — A home run can make the game of baseball very exciting and there were multiple of them on Monday at Heise Park when Northmor (13-7) topped Galion, by a score of 7-3. Junior Maxton Lower hit two home runs to propel his team to the victory.

Galion (5-13) celebrated senior night on Monday, where they honored Sam Albert, Hudson Miller, Brody Symsick and Tanner Keinath.

The Tigers allowed Symsick to throw the first pitch on senior night, since he is not able to pitch due to injury. Following that, Lower took the very next pitch he saw and sent it over the left field fence. Senior Gavin Whited singled up the middle to make it 2-0 after a half inning of baseball.

Sam Albert matched the first inning home run by Lower by sending a two-run shot over the left field fence. This ballgame was exciting from the start.

Andrew Armrose recorded an RBI single to give Northmor the lead back in the top of the second inning. Lower again went deep — this time it was a two-run knock over the left field fence — to give the Golden Knights a 5-2 lead.

Kael Longwell brought in Galion’s final run on a fielder’s choice.

Landon Campbell went four innings on the pitcher’s mound for Galion. He gave up 11 hits and five earned runs. The sophomore recorded five strikeouts.

Holden Hunter pitched three innings in relief duty and gave up a single run.

Whited hustled home in the top of the fifth inning to score on a tag-up. Then, in the sixth, Grant Bentley reached home plate on a passed ball.

In a last inning effort, the Tigers were unable to make a push. The inning started hopefully as Max Albert doubled, then Miller singled. Both of the Galion base runners were left stranded.

Northmor’s Bentley went for the complete game on the bump. Bentley allowed three runs, spreading out nine hits over seven innings.

Now, Northmor will play Colonel Crawford Tuesday. Then, the Golden Knights will travel to Clear Fork on Saturday.

Galion will play River Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
