Cross country: Lady Tigers 2nd at Old Fort meet

OLD FORT — A solid 2021 season continued for the Galion High School girls cross country team on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers placed second against a competitive field in the Old Fort Invitational. Galion tallied 100 points, finishing 19 points behind meet champion Tiffin Columbian, which finished with 81 points.

Fremont Ross (110 points) and host Old Fort (115 points) were close behind Galion, placing third and fourth, respectively.

Joanna Kelley of Ottawa Hills claimed the individual championship, posting a winning time of 19:21.11.

Raygann Campbell was Galion’s top runner, finishing in ninth place with a time of 20:39.05. Nora Harding placed 16th, posting a time of 21:35.36.

Zaynah Tate placed 20th, crossing the finish line in 21:52.65. Emily McDonald came in 29th place with a time of 22:24.25. Ava Smith finished in 32nd place, turning in a time of 22:35.36.

Campbell, Harding, Tate, McDonald, and Smith each earned a medal for their performance at Old Fort.

In the boys race, Galion’s Chad Taylor finished in seventh place to lead all Tigers runners. His time was 17:31.01. Taylor was the lone medalist for the Tigers.

Galion placed eighth in the team standings (251 points).

Columbus Grove was the team champion with 56 points, easily outdistancing runnerup Tiffin Columbian, which finished with 103 points.

Maumee’s Gavin Bekker was the individual champion, finishing the course in 16:28.51.

Upcoming schedule

Galion will compete in the Crestline Invitational on Tuesday and then head to the Marion Harding Invitational on Saturday.

The Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16 at Marion Harding. Meet time is 10 a.m.

Galion will host the Division II District Meet on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Amann Park. That meet begins at 10 a.m.
