GALION — Adriana Zeger’s hat trick powered Galion to a 3-1 win over Mansfield St. Peter’s in girls soccer action on Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers’ fourth win of the season is an important mark since it’s a new season win total for the girl’s soccer team.

“That’s a huge accomplishment. We’ve been working hard all season long to get to this point,” said Galion head coach Cole Plumb. “I told them before the game that this was history if we got a win here on our new home field. It’s a huge step forward for us and hopefully huge things to come.”

The Lady Tigers got the scoring started with just under 14 minutes left in the first half. Zeger beat the Spartans defense for a goal through the right side.

Galion (4-8-1, 0-5-1 Mid Ohio Athletic Conference) was much more aggressive in the first half and controlled time of possession majority of the time. Galion got off seven shots compared to three for Mansfield St. Peter’s in the first half.

In the first half, goalkeeper Rilynn Keinath recorded a pair of saves for Galion.

St. Peter’s came out attacking and tied the game at the 36:46 mark in the second half. Kat Bryant-Windom beat Keinath through the left side of the goal.

Galion didn’t take long to regain the lead. Zeger took advantage of a penalty kick awarded to the Lady Tigers at the 32:45 mark and converted the spot kick to give Galion a 2-1 lead.

The senior completed the hat trick off the rebound from a corner kick at the 10:32 mark for the Lady Tigers to give them a 3-1 win.

“Adriana is a good player for us. She has the ability to score every game and every time she touches the ball,” Plum said.

Galion was again aggressive in the second half and out shot St. Peter’s 12-6 in the game.

“Our plan was to possess the ball. Our goalie was a little hurt today. So, we wanted to keep as much pressure as we could off her,” said Plum.

Galion’s next match is scheduled for Saturday at Upper Sandusky. The Lady Tigers return home Tuesday to face Mansfield Senior.

Galion wraps up regular season play with a pair of road matches at Kenton on Saturday, Oct. 9 and at River Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
