Girls golf: Colonel Crawford, Edison, Wynford advance to district tourney

GALION — Colonel Crawford, Edison, and Wynford are headed to the Division II girls district golf tournament.

They were the top three teams to emerge from the Division II sectional tournament on Tuesday at Valley View Golf Course. Colonel Crawford won the sectional title, shooting a total score of 360. Edison was the runnerup with a final tally of 391 and Wynford was third after shooting 414.

The top three individuals not a member of a qualifying team also advanced to the district tournament. Shelby senior Nicole Jones shot 71 (38-33) to win the match medal at the sectional tournament. Upper Sandusky junior Olivia Gier carded a round of 75 (36-39) to claim second place. St. Peter’s senior Danielle Powell posted a final score of 79 (38-41) to earn the final individual slot for the district tournament from the Galion sectional.

All five Colonel Crawford golfers finished among the top 15 players in the sectional. Sophomore Lucy Myers (49-39) and senior Chelsea Daubenspeck (47-41) each shot 88 and tied for sixth place in the individual results.

Senior Katie Reynolds shot 91 (46-45) and came in eighth place for the Eagles. Junior Sophie Beck finished 10th with a round of 93 (51-42). Senior Katie Hanft shot 99 (51-48) to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Junior Ava Grant was the top Edison player, shooting 83 (45-38) to finish in fourth place.

Wynford junior Jordyn Alspach led the Royals into the district tournament, shooting a score of 92 (49-43) to finish in ninth place. Junior Kyliana Bennett tied for 14th place after carding a round of 99 (51-48).

Galion finished in 11th place in the final team results on Tuesday. The Tigers finished with a total score of 505.

Junior Julia Conner led Galion with a total score of 111 (59-52) and came in 29th place in the individual standings. Junior Ellexia Ratcliff shot 124 (66-58). Junior Izzie Willacker carded a round of 127 (62-65). Senior Missi Vonhoupe shot 150 (80-70). Sophomore Addison Reed finished her day with a score of 143 (68-75).

Clear Fork placed sixth in the team results with a final score of 441. Senior Brooke Beer was the top player, shooting a round of 97 (52-45) to lead the Lady Colts.

Buckeye Central finished in ninth place with a total score of 477. Senior Eva Lewis was the Buckettes’ top golfer, ending the tournament with a score of 104 (52-52).

The Division II girls district tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 4 at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington. Tee time is 9 a.m.

The top four teams and top four individual players will qualify for the Division II state championships set for Oct. 15-16 at the Ohio State University Golf Course.
