Football: Galion, Col. Crawford and Wynford make playoffs

Galion clinched the No. 8 seed spot to qualify for the playoffs of the Div. V Region 16 but its head football coach says the rankings mean little to him.

“The only thing the seed means is where you play,” he said.

The Tigers is the only Crawford County football team to not host a playoff game. The Tigers (8-2) will travel about an hour north to battle host Milan Edison Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Galion is pre-selling tickets for $8 at the athletic office from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Students can purchase tickets in the guidance office during lunch time through Friday. Tickets are $9 at the gate.

The team has been in playoff mode since it lost to Jonathan Alder in late September.

“We’re just continuing what we’re doing,” he said.

Hawkins said the Chargers (9-1) use the triple option offense, which Galion hasn’t come across this season. He’s hoping his team’s previous postseasons will progress them further this time in the playoffs.

“We’re hoping the experience (of) being there for the last four years will help us,” Hawkins said.

Last season, Galion lost to Wooster Triway 42-7.

Additionally, Wynford will host the No. 8 seed Delta Panthers (6-4) in its first playoff game at 7 p.m. Saturday. Colonel Crawford will host No. 6 seed Defiance Ayersville Pilots (8-2), which is also at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for the Wynford game are available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday and until noon Saturday at the high school. Colonel Crawford will accept cash for tickets to its playoff game at the high school office during school hours.

Like Galion, both schools are pre-selling tickets for $8 and $9 at the night of the game.
