Cross country: Galion boys 11th, girls 12th at district meet

Galion cross country teams finished in 11th and 12th places when hosting the Div. II Northwest district championships at Amanns Reservoir Park Saturday.

Lexington earned both championships. In the boys’ race, they finished with 34 points, while Perkins had 38, Norwalk scored 79, Shelby had 107, Huron tallied 141, Willard and Bellevue both finished with 160 and Edison had 209. Ontario finished with 264, followed by Clearfork with 294, Galion at 298 and Vermilion at 350. Clearfork and Vermilion both did not have a full team.

Nick Stricklen highlighted local performances on the day by winning the boys’ race in 15:22.25 for Lexington.

Colin McCullough was 38th in 18:23.02 and Lucas Conner took 51st in 18:54.58 for Galion. Mikey Stover ran 70th in 20:11.38 and Luke Eisnaugle placed 71st in 20:12.25, while Spencer Guinther finished 73rd in 20:13.96 and Kurt Ensman was 77th in 21:04.85.

Also, Nic Oehler was 82nd.

In the girls’ race, Lexington finished with 18 points, while Bellevue tallied 84. Shelby was third with 102 points and was followed by Huron at 118, Perkins with 129 and Edison, which had 142. Ontario was seventh with 175 points, while Norwalk followed at 210, Upper Sandusky at 257, Willard at 259, Vermilion at 277 and Galion in last with 309. Huron did not field a full team.

Dominique Clairmonte won the girls’ race in 18:08.94 for Lexington.

For the Lady Tigers, Sari Conner placed 43rd in 21:55.61. Megan Zeir was 48th in 22:27.29 and Ashlie Sallee took 69th in 23:39.47. Kelsey Hoffman was 76th in 24:25.24.

Also, Lauren Huggins placed 85th, while Lexi Hadamuscin ran 86th and Cheyenne Blair ran 87th.
