Volleyball: Buckeye Central bounces Galion, 3-1

Buckeye Central lived up its to top 15 ranking on Saturday, handing Galion a 3-1 defeat in non-league volleyball action.

The Buckettes cruised past the Tigers, 25-8, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16. Buckeye Central is ranked No. 15 in this week’s Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Div. IV poll.

Jena Delarber led the Buckettes with 18 kills and four blocks. Jenna Karl recorded 17 kills and a team-best 17 digs. Sarah Heydinger knocked down nine kills and three blocks.

Bailey Agin was 22-for-23 serving with four aces and also had 14 digs. Addison Ackerman had 43 assists, 10 digs and four kills. Erin Baldosser finished with 12 digs.

Galion statistics were not available.

Buckeye Central is scheduled to play Carey (15-2, 9-2 Northern 10) today, then travel to Bucyrus (5-11, 3-8 Northern 10) on Tuesday. The Buckettes will square off against Colonel Crawford (7-10, 4-8 Northern 10) on Thursday at New Washington.

Carey, ranked No. 12 in the Div. IV coaches’ poll, swept the Buckettes in their previous meeting this season. Buckeye Central swept both Bucyrus and Colonel Crawford in their previous matches in 2015.

The Tigers (11-6, 7-3 MOAC) jump back into Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when they play host to Fairbanks. The Panthers (10-7, 5-5 MOAC) have won seven of their last 10 matches, including a sweep of Marion Harding in their most recent outing last Thursday.

Galion swept Fairbanks, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15, on Sept. 10 at Milford Center.

Tuesday’s match has been designated Volley for the Cure Night at Galion.

After tomorrow’s match, the Tigers have just three regular season dates left on the schedule. Galion plays host to Marion Harding on Thursday. The Tigers defeated the Prexies (5-12, 3-7 MOAC) in five sets in their first meeting on Sept. 15.

Galion travels to North Union on Oct. 13. The Tigers swept the Lady Wildcats (11-6, 6-5 MOAC) on Sept. 17 at Richwood.

The final match of the season is a home date on Oct. 15 against Buckeye Valley. The Tigers will celebrate senior night when the Barons come to town. Galion defeated Buckeye Valley (4-13, 1-10 MOAC) in three sets on Sept. 22.
