Galion spikers pick up three more victories

Galion 3, Clear Fork 0

BELLVILLE — The Galion Lady Tigers wrapped their calender week on Thursday with a road trip to Bellville for a meeting with the hosting Clear Fork Lady Colts.

For the second time this season, Galion swept Clear Fork in three sets; 25-11, 25-16, 25-16. With the victory, the Lady Tigers now sit at 15-1 overall on the season and 9-0 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. The Lady Colts dropped to 3-13 with the loss, including a mark of 1-7 in league play.

Galion continued its’ usual well-round attack at the net, recording 43 kills on 40 Kayla Hardy assists. The Tigers would also thrive at the service line, going 66/72 on the evening en route to 46 points and 14 aces. On defense, the victorious visitors collected five blocks and 31 digs.

Other stats from Thursday’s victory were: Samantha Comer- 12 kills, 16/18 serving, 12 points, 5 aces, 9 digs; Kerrigan Myers- 5 kills, 1 block; Taylor Keeran- 9 kills, 9/10 serving, 6 points, 3 aces, 1 block; Jaden Ivy- 12 kills, 13/14 serving, 10 points, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 4 digs; Gillian Miller- 2 kills, 1 block; Brooklyn Cosey- 1 kill, 1 block; Hardy- 2 kills, 3/4 serving, 1 block, 6 digs; Kate Schieber- 5/5 serving, 3 points, 1 dig and Nicole Thomas- 20/21 serving, 15 points, 2 aces, 10 digs.

On Monday, September 30, Galion will play hosts to the Northmor Lady Golden Knights in non-conference play before hosting Shelby on Tuesday.

Galion 3, Harding 0

GALION — Following Monday’s non-conference victory against the Upper Sandusky Lady Rams, the Galion Lady Tigers volleyball squad was back at it again on Tuesday on their home floor, playing hosts to the Harding Prexies in MOAC action.

The Lady Tigers would have no issues with their league foes, winning once again in straight sets; 25-7, 25-12, 25-9. Galion is yet to lose a set in MOAC play and improve to 15-1 overall with the victory and sit at 9-0 in conference meetings.

As a team on Tuesday, Galion collected 41 kills, four blocks, 39 digs and 37 assists while going 67/71 at the service line and racking up 40 points on nine aces.

Thomas would lead the way in the serving category, posting an impressive, 25/26 mark, good for 16 points and two aces. Thomas also collected six digs defensively for the Tigers in the win. Hardy had a well-rounded game, recording 31 assists as the primary ball handler while going 12/12 on her serves that led to eight points and four of the nine Galion aces.

Comer and Keeran both reached double-figures in the kills category on Tuesday, earning 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Comer also went 6/6 on her serves, finished with nine digs and recorded two assists. Keeran was 7/8 at the serving line, recording five points and two aces while also picking up three blocks and a dig defensively.

Other statistics in Tuesday’s conference win were: Myers- 7 kills, 1 dig; Ivy- 9 kills, 1 block, 6 digs, 4 assists, 3/5 serving, 2 points; Cosey- 1 kill, 1 block, 3 digs; Ady Monk- 1 kill; Schieber- 14/14 serving, 9 points, 1 ace, 2 digs and Kierra Pigg- 1 dig.

Galion 3, Upper Sandusky 0

GALION — In a Monday, non-league contest, the Galion volleyball squad welcomed the Upper Sandusky Lady Rams to town.

The Lady Tigers continued their dominance, defeating their guests in three sets; 25-17, 25-18, 25-12.

Galion racked up 11 aces at the service line on Monday while posting a 64/73 clip that led to 43 points. The home team also finished with 35 kills, 33 assists, 30 digs and nine blocks in their straight-set win.

Stats from Monday were: Comer- 10/12 serving, 7 points, 1 ace, 6 kills, 1 block, 8 digs; Myers- 6 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs; Keeran- 5/8 serving, 4 points, 1 ace, 7 kills, 2 blocks; Ivy- 9/10 serving, 5 points, 3 aces, 6 kills, 5 digs; Miller- 8 kills, 5 blocks, 1 dig, 1 assist; Cosey- 3 blocks; Hardy- 17/20 serving, 14 points, 4 aces, 2 kills, 3 digs, 32 assists; Schieber- 8/8 serving, 3 points, 1 dig; Ella Payne- 1/1 serving, 1 point and Thomas- 14/14 serving, 9 points, 2 aces, 10 digs.
