Girls golf: Huron, Edison, Shelby advance to Div. II district tournament

The girls golf season ended Tuesday for Crawford County players with several good performances at the Div. II sectional tournament at Valley View Golf Course near Galion.

Huron, Edison and Shelby were the top three teams at the sectional and will advance to the Div. II district tournament scheduled for Monday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington. Huron won the team title with a score of 353. Edison placed second, shooting 359. Shelby came in third with a score of 361.

Those teams will be joined by the top three individual qualifiers, Abby Conover of Lexington, Maddy Brown of Tiffin Calvert and Gabrielle Scavuzzo of Norwalk St. Paul. Conover recorded a round of 86. Brown carded 87. Scavuzzo finished with a score of 89.

Shelby’s Alexis Jones won the match medal after shooting 74. The junior shot 38 on the front nine and finished with a score of 36 on the back nine.

Kylie Greulich of Huron was two shots off the pace, finishing at 76. She opened with a 41 on the front side and closed strong, shooting 35 on the back nine.

Galion finished eighth in the team standings, shooting a combined 462. Abby Barre was the top player for the Tigers at the sectional. She shot 109 to finish 35th. Barre, a junior, opened with a score of 55 on the front nine and carded 54 on the back nine.

Senior Karissa Rinehart finished in a three-way tie for 39th place after carding 112. She shot 62 on the front nine and closed her day with a score of 50 on the back nine at Valley View.

Galion junior Shae Ness shot 113 to earn 42nd place. She carded 58 on the front nine and closed with a 55 on the final nine holes.

Tigers sophomore Alexis Chaplin finished in 54th place. She shot 128, carding 65 on the front nine and closing with a 63.

Colonel Crawford senior Makalah Trubee closed out her high school career by finishing in 36th place. She shot 110, opening with a 52 on the front side and closing with a score of 58 on the back nine.

Buckeye Central senior Lydia Shealy shot 90 to lead the Buckettes to a sixth-place finish in the team standings. Shealy placed 10th in the individual table.

Sophomore Paige Shealy came in 27th place, shooting 103. She started the day with a 50 on the front side and shot 53 on the back nine.

Megan McGinnis of Buckeye Central finished in a three-way tie for 31st place. She carded 107, shooting 59 on the front and closing strong with 48 on the final nine holes.

Alli Biglin shot 111, carding 56 on the front and 55 on the back to finish 37th. Ashlee Stander came in 43rd, carding 114. She shot 54 on the front and 60 on the back nine.

Wynford finished 10th in the team standings. Junior Annika Gerlach led the Royals, shooting 116 to finish in a tie for 44th place. She shot 62 on the front nine and closed with a 54.

Royals junior Gretchen Harris tied for 46th place with a score of 118. She shot 54 on the front and 64 on the back nine.

Wynford junior Sarah Ogden placed 58th, shooting 136. Sophomore Brooklyn Gebhardt shot 168 to finish in 66th place. Freshman Abby Underwood placed 68th, shooting 189.

Bucyrus had two players compete in the sectional. Senior Toni Zeigler shot 105 to earn 30th place in the individual standings. She carded 54 on the front nine and closed with 51.

Senior Kim Leonhardt shot 144, which was good for 60th place. She shot identical 72s on both the front and back nine.
