Seneca East rallies to edge Buckeye Central in OT

Seneca East quarterback Brennan Martin led a late rally as the Tigers upended Buckeye Central 40-34 in overtime on Friday in Attica. The Tigers remained unbeaten with the win.

Martin ran three yards for a touchdown with 1:37 to play in the fourth quarter and then hit Brayden Walker for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 34 and force overtime. In the extra period, he scored on another 3-yard run to give the Tigers the win.

Martin finished 15-of-23 for 203 yards passing with one touchdown — a 6-yarder to Cory Depinet in the second quarter. Martin rushed for 23 yards on nine carries.

Depinet carried 23 times for 140 yards and two scores. He ran 23 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and added a 10-yarder in the final period. He also caught six passes for 74 yards.

Brock Martin ran for 48 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers, who finished with 445 total yards. Seneca East rushed for 242 yards.

BC’s senior quarterback Grant Loy passed for 226 yards, completing 21-of-33 passes. He tossed three touchdown passes, but had two interceptions.

Scott Heydinger caught scoring passes of 34 and 18 yards, and finished with 11 receptions for 138 yards. Jaret Shook made three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Cody Roberts was the Bucks’ workhorse on the ground, carrying the ball 29 times for 134 yards and one touchdown. Nash Ehresman also had a touchdown on his only carry.

The Bucks rolled up 365 total yards of offense.

Buckeye Central (1-1, 0-1 N10) will try to bounce back next Friday when Ridgemont visits New Washington. The Golden Gophers (1-1) lost to Mount Gilead 48-12 on Friday.

Seneca East (2-0, 1-0 N10) travels to Bucyrus in Week 3. The Redmen (1-1) held off Crestline on Friday, 25-17.
