Girls tennis: Galion still in search of first win

The Galion girls tennis team is still in search of its first victory this season after dropping two matches this week. The Lady Tigers are 0-9.

Jonathan Alder defeated Galion, 4-1, in a match played Tuesday at Heise Park. Dani Court and Tori Chandler posted the lone win for the Lady Tigers at first doubles. The Court-Chandler pairing knocked Alder’s Keli Geers and Jenna Mink, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3 tie breaker).

At number two doubles, Alder’s Alex Phinney and Cassidy Troyer rallied from a set down to defeat Galion’s Kiersten Gifford and Marissa Brenich, 5-7, 6-2, (2-8 tie breaker).

Alder’s Brenna Smith swept Galion’s Katelyn Smith at first singles, 6-1, 6-2. At second singles, Chloe Grove of Alder defeated Galion’s Cassidy Ivy, 6-2, 6-2. Alder’s Mikayla Holland won a tough match against Galion’s Kayln Gimble, 6-4, 7-5, at number three singles.

Upper Sandusky 4, Galion 1

The Lady Rams swept both doubles matches and took two of three singles contests from Galion on Monday at Heise Park.

Smith gave the Lady Tigers their lone win at number one singles. She came from behind to prevail in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Ivy, at number two singles, and Gimble, at number three singles, each lost in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6, to their Lady Rams’ counterparts.

In doubles play, Court and Chandler lost, 3-6, 2-6, and Gifford and Brenich dropped their match, 7-5, 2-6 (2-8 tie breaker).
